HC Deb 18 February 1988 vol 127 c728W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will list the constabularies which will have computers connected to the upgraded police national computer network, and those constabularies that have an existing mainframe computer linked to the police national computer.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The eight Scottish police forces have access to the police national computer and it will be maintained once the PNC network has been upgraded.

The mainframe computer of Lothian and Borders police has an interface with the PNC which will also be maintained with the upgraded PNC network.

Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will list mainframe computers belonging to constabularies, indicating whether they are for command and control or criminal information purposes.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

One Scottish force, Lothian and Borders police, has a mainframe computer (this term being taken as excluding mini and micro computers). It is used for criminal information purposes, and has no command and control functions.
