HC Deb 18 February 1988 vol 127 cc684-5W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Linlithgow (Mr. Dalyell), Official Report, 8 February, column 62, what measures are in force physically to protect the Central Electricity Generating Board headquarters for the national grid control system in Southwark against malicious intruders; whether the Central Electricity Generating Board employs any security personnel at the site; what back-up system exists in the event of a total breakdown at Southwark; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The threat of terrorism and malicious damage at all CEGB installations is recognised and appropriate measures are taken. It would not be appropriate for me to reveal the details. If national control in Southwark were lost for any reason, plans exist for its functions to be transferred to an emergency control centre.
