HC Deb 18 February 1988 vol 127 cc708-9W
52. Mr. Amess

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the recent visit to Basildon by the Minister of State, the hon. Member for Oxford, West and Abingdon (Mr. Patten).

Mr. John Patten

I visited Basildon on Tuesday 2 February to open a crime prevention exhibition organised by Allders department stores. The exhibition showed a range of security equipment and provided an opportunity for the police and the local crime prevention panel to give advice and information on crime prevention matters. The exhibition was due to run at Basildon until Saturday 13 February, and then to be transferred to other parts of the country. The Allders initiative is an excellent example of the way in which the private sector can contribute to crime prevention.
