HC Deb 18 February 1988 vol 127 c695W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether his Department has studied the impact of community charge legislation for the accuracy of the 1991 census.

Mr. Scott

The Office of Population Censuses and Surveys is taking steps to ensure that the 1991 census will be as accurate as possible. The likely effect of all possible causes of inaccuracy will be considered and monitored, both before the census in tests and after the census in post-enumeration checks. As in earlier censuses, it will be stressed that information provided by the public on census forms will be used only in the preparation of statistics.
