To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the scientific name of the antidepressant given to Audrey Ann Bergeman on 23 July 1987 at Risley remand centre; what other medical treatment was given to Miss Bergeman while she was at the centre; whether she made any requests for medical treatment whilst she was at the centre; whether she made any statements about her medical condition while she was at the centre; and what was the assessment of the medical staff who examined her upon her admission to the centre.

Miss Bergeman was received at Risley remand centre on 20 July 1987. At the reception examination she was found to be in good general health except for a bronchial condition, for which medication was prescribed. She reported sick on 23 July and was prescribed small doses of amitriptyline. No other medical application was made and no other treatment was given.

Forward to
