HC Deb 16 February 1988 vol 127 cc578-9W
38. Mr. Oppenheim

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what plans he has to give parents the right to elect parent governors to temporary school governing bodies.

Mr. Dunn

Schedule 2 to the Education (No 2) Act 1986 provides that the temporary parent governors for a new school will normally be appointed by the LEA, or in the case of an aided school by the promoters, from among parents of children likely to attend the school. The Government have no plans to change this. Once the school is established, parent governors will normally be elected under the new instrument of government.
