HC Deb 16 February 1988 vol 127 cc519-20W
Mr. Rhodes James

To ask the Prime Minister whether she will instigate further inquiries into the fate of Sub-Lieutenant Allen Tuckey, Private Ray Jones, Captain Bluett, Captain Hamilton, Private Davies and Private Bennett, in the light of the report of the International Historians' Commission on the wartime record of President Kurt Waldheim; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

We are reviewing the results of investigations carried out in 1986 by the Ministry of Defence into the fate of captured British service men, including those mentioned by my hon. Friend, in the light of the report of the International Commission of Historians on the wartime record of President Waldheim. I would remind the House that we have taken the allegations concerning Dr. Waldheim very seriously, particularly those concerning British service men, and that our thorough investigation of British official records has found no evidence to substantiate the allegations. As we have said before, we remain ready to examine all new information.
