To ask the Minister for the Arts what financial support has been given in the last three years to industrial museums.

Two major museums devoted to science and industry receive grant-in-aid from central Government, the Science museum and the Greater Manchester museum of science and industry. The sums provided as grant-in-aid of these museums in the last three years were as follows:

1 Funded by the Greater Manchester Council.

Museums in the public and private sectors are eligible for grants administered by the Museums and Galleries Commission and the area museum councils. The value of such grants made to industrial museums is not readily available.
