Mr. McLeish: To ask the Secretary of State for Employment (1) if he will give the total number of claimants in Scotland who have been refused unemployment benefit pursuant to the recommendations of claims investigators; and if he will break this figure down according to the reasons for withdrawal of benefit, for each year from 1979 to 1987;

(2) if he will give the total number of unemployment benefit claimants referred to claims investigators for each of the unemployment benefit offices in Scotland for each year from 1979 to 1987;

(3) if he will give the total number of unemployment benefit claimants referred to claims investigators in Scotland; and if he will break this figure down according to the reasons given for referral, for each year from 1979;

(4) what was the total number of unemployment beneft claimants referred to claims investigators in Scotland for each year from 1979.

It is unclear from the hon. Member's questions which officials he is referring to as "claims investigators" and I am unable, therefore, to provide the information requested. If the hon. Member would like to write to me with further details, I should be happy to try to respond.
