To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) what was the shortfall in the amount to the co-responsibility levy in respect of the 1986 cereal harvest, as between that paid by farmers and that collected by the Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce; and if he will make a statement;

(2) on how many tonnes of cereal following the harvest of 1986 co-responsibiltiy levy was paid to the Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce;

(3) what was the cereal harvest for 1986; and on how many tonnes co-responsibility levy was paid.

The cereals harvest for 1986 was 24.5 million tonnes. Co-responsibility levy has now been collected on 13.4 million tonnes, including 2 million tonnes of grain imported from other member states. About 13 million tonnes of cereals was not liable to levy in the United Kingdom during the 1986–87 marketing year; this comprised grain exported to other member states; grain used for seed; grain used on farms and grain processed by farmers and fed to their own livestock; grain stocks carried over into the current marketing year.

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many tonnes of the British cereal harvest in 1986–87 he estimates were liable to co-responsibility levy; and how much of the levy has been collected to date.
