To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how he intends to advance his proposals on management education outlined in the recent White Paper.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

As set out in the White Paper, "DTI—department for Enterprise," (Cmnd. 278), DTI, along with other Government Departments and the Manpower Services Commission, is represented on the industry-led Council for Management Education and Development (the Charter Group initiative). The council's objective is to encourage the spread of management education and good management practice. Its work will include formulating a code of good practice and helping to develop a framework for management education and training at all levels. I am greatly encouraged by the progress which the council has made so far.
