§ 69. Mr. Andrew MacKayTo ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what progress has been made in attempts to achieve agreement in the European Community on removing national barriers to free trade in insurance.
§ Mr. MaudeAt the Internal Market Council on 18 December agreement was reached, by qualified majority, on the main elements of the non-life insurance services directive. This is a welcome step forward in opening up the Common Market to free trade in insurance, and we hope that it will now be possible to move quickly to formal adoption of the directive.
