66. Ms. AbbotTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans he has to reverse the cut in real resources to Thames regional health authorities; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. CurrieThere has been no cut in real resources. Over the period 1978–79 to 1986–87, gross revenue expenditure in the four Thames regions rose by 119.5 per cent. Compared with general inflation this represents a real terms increase of 12.8 per cent.
§ Mr. Simon HughesTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the percentage change in(a) revenue expenditure and (b) capital expenditure on hospital and community health services in real terms, using the National Health Service pay and prices deflator, for the four Thames regional health authorities in total, between 1981–82 and 1986–87.
§ Mr. NewtonThe information required on revenue expenditure was given in my right hon. Friend's reply to the hon. Member on 12 January at column132. The increase in gross capital expenditure in the Thames regions over this period was 37 per cent. after allowing for the effects of capital inflation in the hospital and community health services.
