HC Deb 09 February 1988 vol 127 c150W
Mr. Goodlad

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many people have benefited from the restart programme in(a) the Northwich travel-to-work area, (b) the Chester travel-to-work area and (c) the Runcorn travel-to-work area in each year since the programme's inception; and what has been the cost in each year.

Mr. Lee

I regret that the information is not available in the form requested. However, figures for the Cheshire employment service area, which includes Northwich, Chester and Runcorn, are shown in the table:

1 July 1986 to9 April 1987 10 April 1987 to 25 December 1987
Number of restart interviews 23,333 22,136
Percentage of those interviewed who received a positive offer of help 95 94

The estimated cost of delivering restart counselling in the Cheshire area in 1986–87 was £310,000 and so far in 1987–88 has been £294,000.
