HC Deb 09 February 1988 vol 127 c151W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is his policy on wage earners being rewarded for increases in productivity achieved with their co-operation.

Mr. Nicholls

I am, of course, in favour of rewarding genuine productivity achievement provided it can be afforded and does not add to unit wage costs. Primary responsibility for pay must remain a matter for employers and employees directly concerned.
