HC Deb 09 February 1988 vol 127 c149W
Mr. McCusker

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether, during any meetings of the Intergovernmental Council, the representatives of the Government of the Irish Republic have raised with him their objections to the administration of justice in Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement.

Sir Geoffrey Howe

The Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Council (AIIC) itself last met in November 1985. Both then and since, the Irish Government have put forward a number of views and proposals concerning the administration of justice in Northern Ireland. These have been considered at the Intergovernmental Conference which was set up under the Anglo-Irish Agreement within the framework of the AIIC. We have considered their proposals as part of our continuing commitment to increase public confidence in the administration of justice in Northern Ireland.
