To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how he exercised nomination rights to Thamesmead following the abolition of the Greater London council and prior to the transfer of Thamesmead from the London residuary body to Thamesmead Town Ltd.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many properties are being registered by Thamesmead Town Ltd. in the London borough of Greenwich.

Thamesmead Town has applied to the Greenwich rent officers for rent registrations of 2,401 tenancies.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what additional resources are being made available to the rent officer service in Greenwich and Bexley, now that Thamesmead Town Ltd. has applied to the rent officer for registration of all the tenancies for which they are responsible.

No increase in the number of rent officers or support staff were required for the Greenwich rent officer service due to agreed spare capacity, but additional machines and other equipment have been provided at a cost of approximately £4,000. For the Bexley rent officer service, approval has been given to two additional rent officer posts and to two additional support staff posts, one on a temporary basis. Additional machines have been provided for the Bexley service at a cost of approximately £1,700.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many tenants of Thamesmead Town Ltd. have received his Department's leaflet giving advice to tenants about their rights in the rent registration procedure.

The Bexley rent officer service have issued copies of the Department's booklet "Regulated Tenancies" to all tenants concerned in the 2,983 applications submitted to them by Thamesmead Town. The Greenwich rent officer service have issued 1,800 tenants with copies of the booklet in respect of the total of 2,401 applications which Thamesmead Town submitted to them. Now that further stocks of the booklet are available the Greenwich rent officer service are issuing copies to the remaining 601 tenants.
