HC Deb 08 February 1988 vol 127 c21W
Mr. Nicholas Baker

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received about his proposals to withdraw the need to seek planning approval to put up illuminated signs; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waldegrave

A total of 28 of the 46 organisations consulted last October have so far responded to the proposals, which were confined to certain specified types of illuminated signs. Some representations have also been received from individuals, amenity groups, and local authorities. My right hon. Friend will now be considering, in consultation with the Secretary of State for Wales, whether, and to what extent, to implement the proposals. If my hon. Friend wishes to submit any representations, he is welcome to do so.
