Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many cases referred to the rent assessment committee in each county in Wales resulted in a reduced in each of the last five years.

Mr. Grist

Information relating to the numbers of reductions in rent as a result of all referrals to the rent assessment committee is not held centrally. However, an analysis of a sample of cases1 shows that the committee's determination was lower in percentage terms than the rent officer's assessment as follows:

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is the percentage change in the number of applications for fair rents in Wales over the past five years.

Mr. Grist

The total number of applications for fair rent for regulated and housing association tenancies in Wales in 1982 was 13,790. The total in 1987 was 23,083. This represents an increase of 67 per cent.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many properties have been assessed for fair rent in Wales in the latest year for which figures are available.

In 1987 the total number of registrations for fair rents in Wales was 22,677. This includes regulated and housing association cases.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is the level of fair rent in the private sector in Wales in each county, in the latest year for which figures are available.

Information on the number of applications by local authorities for review of a fair rent is not held centrally. However, the total number of first registrations of fair rents where the application has been made by the local authority is as follows:
