Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science how much it cost the Inner London education authority in 1986–87 and each of the preceding five years to educate(a) a primary school pupil and (b) a secondary school pupil for one year, broken down into (1) teaching costs, (ii) administration costs and (iii) other costs,; and if he will make a statement.

Detailed figures for actual expenditure by ILEA in 1986–87 are not yet available. The table gives net recurrent institutional expenditure per primary and secondary pupil in ILEA broken down between teaching and non-teaching costs for the years 1981–82 to 1985–86. ILEA's central administration and inspection costs over the same period are shown separately per head of population.
