HC Deb 03 February 1988 vol 126 cc662-3W
Mr. Tony Lloyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list for each district health authority the money spent over the previous five years on meeting fire regulations.

Mrs. Currie

I regret that the information is not available.

Mr. Tony Lloyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what advice he gives to health authorities about fire regulations; and what information he has about the way in which decisions are made about the amount of money to be spent for this purpose.

Mrs. Currie

The Department in November 1987 published new and updated guidance to health authorities in "FIRECODE", a comprehensive suite of documents which advise on fire precautions regulations, policy and management as well as giving technical guidance on various building, engineering and equipment fire precautions matters. Health authorities are expected to discuss fire precautions with local fire authorities and to meet the cost of compliance with statutory and other regulations and guidance from within their normal allocations.
