HC Deb 03 February 1988 vol 126 cc628-9W
15. Mr. Gerald Bowden

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what his Department is doing to counter the international threat from drug runners.

Mr. Eggar

We are taking a leading role both bilaterally and in multilateral organisations. We have played an active part in United Nations activities in this field and within the Council of Europe. We make substantial contributions to international assistance programmes and are working to conclude reciprocal agreements for the tracing, seizing and confiscation of traffickers' assets.

65. Mr. Robert G. Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether Her Majesty's Government are receiving co-operation from the Government of Thailand in tackling the question of drug running.

Mr. Eggar

There are frequent exchanges between the drug enforcement bodies of the Royal Thai Government and their British counterparts. I will be visiting Thailand next week with a view to establishing areas for further cooperation on drugs matters.

71. Mr. Gill

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether Her Majesty's Government is receiving co-operation from the Government of Pakistan on tackling the question of drug running.

Mr. Eggar

There are regular exchanges between the Pakistan enforcement bodies and the corresponding British authorities. When I visit Pakistan later this week I will be looking to see if this valuable co-operation can be improved further.
