HC Deb 02 February 1988 vol 126 c561W
100. Mr. Ian Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many visitors stayed overnight in Surrey in 1986; how much they spent, and how many jobs they provided.

Mr. Lee

Information on the total number of visitors to Surrey is not available for 1986. However, overseas residents made about 450,000 overnight visits to Surrey in 1986 and spent about £95 million. The latest data on employment in tourism-related industries in Surrey relate to September 1984 when there were an estimated 21,600 employees in employment. This figure excludes self-employed persons for whom a comparable estimate is not available.
