To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the decline in unemployment in the east midlands and the rise in the number of unfilled vacancies in Nottingham.

On 10 December 1987 the number of unemployed claimants in the east midlands region, adjusted for seasonality and excluding school leavers was 162,800 a fall of 30,800 over the last 12 months. The number of unfilled vacancies registered at jobcentres in Nottingham on 4 December 1987, was 1,305 an increase of 86 since December 1986.

The jobcentres that cover Nottingham are Nottingham, Arnold, Bulwell, Ilkeston, and Netherfield.
