HC Deb 02 February 1988 vol 126 cc525-6W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is the most recent evidence of the effect on accident levels on roads where speed retarders, including road humps, have been installed.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Trials conducted by the Transport and Road Research Laboratory show that speed control humps can significantly reduce injury accidents. New regulations introduced in December 1986 gave increased discretion to local highway authorities as to installation of humps. The Department does not maintain central records of their installation and use.

I am arranging for relevant leaflets issued by the Department to be placed in the Library of the House.
