Mr. Sheerman

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how much money has been spent in each of the last 10 years by his Department or agencies responsible to his Department on attracting industry from(a) the United Kingdom and (b) overseas into (i) Scotland, (ii) Wales, (iii) Northern Ireland and (iv) the English regions, by region.

[holding answer 1 February 1988]: My Department's Invest in Britain Bureau promotes the United Kingdom as a whole as a location for overseas investment, and the Department also provides grants to five English regional development organisations similarly to promote their respective regions. The total amount of money my Department has spent in each of the last 10 years on promotional programmes, and on the regional development organisations, is as follows:
