HC Deb 01 February 1988 vol 126 c459W
87. Sir Russell Johnston

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will increase the British contribution to health care and agricultural development projects in Mozambique.

Mr. Chris Patten

Over half the £15 million of programme aid which we pledged last year is being spent on agriculture, and £400,000 on medical supplies. We have also provided seeds and agricultural tools and paid for the transport of medical supplies under our emergency relief programme. The Commonwealth Development Corporation is considering investments in agricultural projects. I am ready to consider requests for further help in these fields.
