HC Deb 01 February 1988 vol 126 c507W
64. Mr. Sackville

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has received about the future development of Manchester airport.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

We have recently received a number of representations from hon. Members and others about the Monopolies and Mergers Commission report on Manchester airport and its possible implications for the airport's development. The report was commissioned by the Civil Aviation Authority in pursuit of its statutory duty to set a condition governing the maximum charges which may be levied by the airport and is a matter entirely for the authority. We have also received representations about the development of air services between Manchester airport and the United States of America. The United States Government undertook to study proposals tabled by the United Kingdom Government last month. They have agreed to respond as quickly as possible.
