§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeOn 13 April 1988, accumulating evidence on food poisoning associated with salmonella enteritidis phage type 4 was reviewed by my Department and the public health laboratory service.
The following public warnings and information have been issued since 26 August by my Department:
2 September Letter to Chief Environmental Health Officers of local authorites asking them to issue advice locally. 5 September Letter to major catering and hotel organisations with a copy of the 26 August public warning. 21 November Public warning, repeating warning on raw eggs and giving advice about lightly cooked eggs. 5 December Repeat public warning, adding that it was advisable for vulnerable people to avoid eating lightly cooked eggs.
