To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will make a statement on the total numbers claiming income support in the London borough of Brent.

The London borough of Brent is served by the Cricklewood, Neasden, Harlesden, Hendon, Harrow, Edgware, Notting Hill and Ealing local offices of the Department although their boundaries are not conterminous. The total number of persons claiming income support in these offices as at 31 August 1988, the latest information available, is 79,566.(Source: 100 per cent. count of cases in action, which may include a small number of cases not actually in receipt of income support. This figure is provisional and subject to amendment.)
