HC Deb 19 December 1988 vol 144 c76W
Mr. Kirkwood

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has plans to meet the Secretary-General of the United Nations to discuss action against threats to the global environment.

Mr. Eggar

No. As I told the hon. Member on 30 November at column318, my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment has primary responsibility for international action for environmental issues. In close consultation with his Department, we have been working to ensure that our concerns about global environment problems are firmly registered in the appropriate bodies within the UN system.
