HL Deb 15 December 1988 vol 502 cc1117-8WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the estimates at the latest convenient date of the number of HIV-positive people who are not homosexual, bisexual, drug-abusers or haemophiliacs.

Lord Hesketh

The report of the working group on short term prediction of HIV infection and AIDS in England and Wales includes an estimate that between 20,000 and 50,000 individuals were probably infected with HIV at the end of 1987. Of these, between about 2,500 and 7,000 were thought not to be homosexual, bisexual, injecting drug users or haemophiliacs.
