HC Deb 27 April 1988 vol 132 c190W
39. Mr. Dunnachie

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on his decision on the level of grant to the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

I refer the hon. Gentleman to the reply given to the hon. Member for Renfrew, West and Inverclyde (Mr. Graham) on Tuesday, 12 April,Official Report, column 46.

In 1988–89 grant to local councils of social service will be increased by £120,000 and grant to SCVO will be reduced to £90,000. Local councils may purchase services from SCVO. Notwithstanding the reduction in grant, SCVO will receive substantial support from central Government funds in 1988–89 and I am confident that it can continue to make a useful contribution to the promotion of voluntary sector interests.
