HC Deb 27 April 1988 vol 132 c157W
Mr. Pike

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether, in the arrangements for disclosure of information about those seeking to work with children, any restriction will be placed on the type of information that the police will be allowed to pass on to employers about those seeking to work with children other than past convictions, cautions and bindovers; and if he will make a statement;

(2) whether, in relation to the arrangements for the disclosure of information about those seeking to work with children, it will be permissible for the police to pass on to employers information concerning unproved allegations about those seeking to work with children which they consider relevant; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Under the arrangements for the disclosure of information from police records to local authorities and other bodies, the police may disclose any relevant information which might give cause for concern about a candidate's suitability to work with children. Where this information does not agree with that disclosed by the candidate, the employing organisation must take the matter up with the individual before reaching a decision on whether to appoint the person to the post in question.
