Mr. Hunter

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has had any meetings with, made approaches to, or received approaches from the South West Africa People's Organisation, since 1983.

Meetings with SWAPO representatives take place from time to time. Most recently I met Mr. Sam Nujoma on 26 October 1987.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is Her Majesty's Government policy towards the South West Africa People's Organisation.

SWAPO is a party to the negotiations for a Namibian settlement. We do not recognise its claim to be thesole authentic representative of the Namibian people and we oppose its use of violence.
