HC Deb 25 April 1988 vol 132 c14W
21. Mr. Geraint Howells

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement on the impact of the restrictions of sheep movements in Wales.

Mr. Peter Walker

Restrictions on the movement and slaughter of sheep in parts of north Wales following the Chernobyl accident have been successful in protecting public health and maintaining consumer confidence in lamb. £3.3 million has been paid to affected producers in Wales under schemes of compensation introduced in consultation with the farming unions.
