HC Deb 20 April 1988 vol 131 c484W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has any evidence of harmful effects to land, rivers and plant life caused by the use of metaldehydrate and methiocarb.

Mr. Moynihan

I am advised that the substance referred to in the question as metaldehydrate is probably metaldehyde. Products containing metaldehyde and methiocarb are approved under the Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986 for specified uses, mainly as molluscicides. Both substances are toxic and can be harmful to pets and to wildlife, including birds and fish. Pesticides containing these substances should not present an undue hazard to the environment when used according to the conditions of approval.
