HC Deb 20 April 1988 vol 131 cc442-3W
Mr. Campbell-Savours

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has received representations on the delays in the delivery of fire service central mobilising systems by Marconi to fire and civil defence authorities.

Mr. John Patten

No. I understand that of the seven fire and civil defence authorities, only London is in the process of installing a Marconi system. We are informed by the authority that, despite some delay, it is anticipated that the system will be operational by the end of the year.

Mr. Campbell-Savours

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his Department will monitor the cost of the central mobilising system on order by fire brigades.

Mr. John Patten

No. The provision of brigade mobilising systems, including costs, is the responsibility of fire authorities.
