HC Deb 20 April 1988 vol 131 c443W
Ms. Richardson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what child care provision his Department provides for pre-school age children of the Department's employees; what child care provision for school holiday and/or after school care is provided for employees' children aged five and over; what plans there are for increasing provision in the next five years; and how these are to be funded.

Mr. Douglas Hurd

No facilities are provided for the pre-school age children of staff. For older chidren, we participate in an interdepartmental holiday playscheme in the Bootle area. We have no immediate plans to increase the provision of child care facilities but would be willing to consider proposals put forward by staff or trade union representatives for schemes which would be expected to become self-financing.
