HC Deb 19 April 1988 vol 131 cc394-5W
49. Mr. Heddle

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received about his Department's plans to reduce the level of truancy in schools.

Mrs. Rumbold

The responsibility for taking action on truancy rests with local education authorities and with schools and parents. In the course of preparing circular 2/86, "School Attendance and the Education Welfare Services", and following its publication, the Department received information and representations from interested parties. The Department is considering issuing a further circular relating to school attendance, which would be subject to a similar process of consultation.
