To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what information he seeks from research councils on the subsequent careers of recipients of their grants.

Mr. Jackson

The Department and the Advisory Board for the Research Councils ask the research councils to supply such information as they collect for their own purposes about the first employment destinations of holders of post-graduate student awards. The Department will be discussing with the award-making bodies how the data might be improved and, in particular, how they might be collated on a consistent basis.
