§ 36. Mr. MaxtonTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what research he is supporting into the effects of electromagnetic fields on health in general, and on the incidence of leukaemia in particular.
Mr. JacksonI understand that the Medical Research Council is not at present supporting work specifically to investigate the effects on health of electromagnetic fields. The council is, however, supporting several studies on the clustering of cancer cases, including leukaemia, and their possible causes. These studies may establish whether there is any association between the presence of electromagnetic fields and the incidence of cancer.
