HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 cc185-6W
Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will take steps to see that all three of the necessary tests for glaucoma are made a mandatory part of the National Health Service test for spectacles for those in the over 40 years risk group; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Currie

The use of ophthalmoscopy which can detect glaucoma is already part of the routine NHS sight test. It is open to practitioners to carry out any other tests they judge to be appropriate in individual cases.
