Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what has been the total cost of projects for which urban regeneration grants have been made; and what percentage of the projects was formed by the grants.

Mr. Trippier

One offer of urban regeneration grant has been made towards a scheme costing £17.5 million in all to reclaim and develop the former Round Oak steelworks site in Dudley. The grant offered is £3.25 million representing 18.5 per cent. of the total cost.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much money has been spent on urban regeneration grants to the latest convenient date; and how many projects were involved in the expenditure.

There has been no expenditure.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many current applications are being considered for urban regeneration grants; and if he can give the information by region.

Mr. Trippier

Over 30 possible schemes seeking urban regeneration grant have been or arc being discussed with the Department. Twelve schemes have reached the stage where they are being appraised. The regional breakdown of these is as follows:

Four of these schemes involve a number of sub-projects (21 in one case) each of which will be appraised and decided separately.
