HC Deb 21 October 1987 vol 120 c743W
Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the number of registered unemployed school leavers as of August and those on special schemes; and what were the relevant figures for 1983, 1984, 1985 and 1986.

Mr. Lee

The following information is in the Library. The table shows, for Great Britain, the numbers of unemployed claimants and non claimants aged under 18 years who have not entered employment since completing full-time education, together with all those aged under 18 on the youth opportunities programme and the youth training scheme. The figures are for August of each year from 1983.

August Unemployed claimants Non claimants YOP1 YTS1
1983 108,990 206,058 100,000 107,400
1984 87,411 156,036 277,500
1985 98,132 123,336 247,000
1986 90,660 109,037 2275,100
1987 54,570 112,146 2398,700
1 Figures rounded to nearest hundred. YTS is a training scheme, and not a special measure.
