§ Mr. Spearingasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what communication he has received from the London Docklands Development Corporation concerning plans for the development of the north-eastern sector of the Royal docks; if he will indicate the extent to which these plans are a departure from the statutory development plan and the main features of the application; and if he will make it his policy to call in this application for public inquiry, stating the criteria on which he expects to make his decision.
§ Mr. TrippierThe London Docklands Development Corporation has referred to my Department an outline planning application submitted by Rosehaugh Stanhope Developments plc for a business park, residential, marine development, shopping centre and associated leisure facilities on the Royal Albert dock and Harland and Wolff site, London E16, and land south of Winsor terrace and east of East Ham Manor way, E6. In the opinion of the corporation's planning committee
the proposal is in conflict with or prejudicial to the implementation of a number of fundamental provisions of the initial development for Greater London, the Greater London development plans and the Beckton district plan. The proposed development also includes gross shopping floor space in excess of 250,000 sq ft.In considering whether or not to call in the application for public inquiry, my right hon. Friend will take into account all relevant matters. Applications are, in general, called in only if planning issues of more than local importance are involved. The full criteria were spelt out by my right hon. Friend on 5 May 1987.
