HC Deb 21 October 1987 vol 120 cc776-7W
Mr. Bernie Grant

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people who have applied for naturalisation or registration as British citizens under the British Nationality Act 1981 have had their applications refused as being of unsound mind; and if he will provide a breakdown of those figures by (a) ethnicity and (b) sex.

Mr. Renton

Between July 1986 and September 1987 three applications for naturalisation as British citizens had been recorded as refused on the ground that the applicant was of unsound mind. Earlier figures for naturalisation and figures for registrations are not readily available and records are not kept relating refused applications to ethnicity or sex.
