§ Mr. Yeoasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received regarding the use of crop guns to scare birds.
§ Mr. Donald ThompsonDuring 1987 my Department has received several approaches from campaigners connected with the Birdscarers Anti Nuisance Group and has been sent 36 letters from members of the public about bird scaring, which supported tighter control, or a ban, on the use of audible bird scarers.
The National Farmers Union has written about its code of practice on the use of such devices. A United Kingdom manufacturer has written drawing attention to the scope for controlling his firm's audible devices and disputing the need for a ban to prevent nuisance.
