Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list the persons regarded as supergrasses who have given information to the police which led to cases being prepared by the Director of Public Prosecutions for Northern Ireland in the last 10 years; and if he will indicate in each case the terrorist organisation to whom such supergrasses belonged.

[holding answer 6 November 1987]: The following cases have come to trial in the last 10 years in which a converted terrorist gave evidence against his former accomplices :

  • Black (Provisional IRA)
  • Bennett (Ulster Volunteer Force)
  • McGrady (Provisional IRA)
  • Grimley (Irish National Liberation Army)
  • Morgan (Provisional IRA)
  • Quigley (Provisional IRA)
  • Gilmour (Provisional IRA and Irish National Liberation Army)
  • Crockard (Ulster Volunteer Force)
  • Allen (Ulster Volunteer Force)
  • Kirkpatrick (Irish National Liberation Army)

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether it is possible for him to determine the country and factory which manufactures the materials used by terrorists in Northern Ireland for home-made mixes of explosives.
