§ Mr. William RossTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland which sea loughs in Northern Ireland meet the required standards for salmon farming.
§ Mr. Viggers[holding answer 12 November 1987]: There are no standards required by the Government for salmon farming in Northern Ireland. Applications for licences for particular sites anywhere in Northern Ireland waters are considered on their merits, taking into account such 532W matters as the characteristics of the proposed site, water quality, the protection of fisheries and public health, the preservation of amenity and conservation of flora and fauna. Standards required for economically successful salmon farming are a matter for the promoters.
